Kirchen und Klöster – touristische Dimensionen und Perspektiven

Isenberg Wolfgang and Steinecke Albrecht

Zeitschrift für Tourismuswissenschaft, 2013, vol. 5, issue 2, 141-160

Abstract: For German tourists visiting churches and monastries is a very popular holiday activity. Nevertheless so far there has been a lack of empirical data concerning religious tourism. The results of two representative studies carried out recently give an insight in the structure, motives, activities and experiences of these religious tourists. As it is shown the data even more can be used by the church representatives to improve the standard and quality of their tourist services (guided tours, theme routes and campaigns) – without giving up the specific character of churches and monanstries as vivid places of faith.
