Abstract: This paper identifies influential factors of valuation of cultural landscape for both tourists and inhabitants, in comparison. The hanseatic city of Luebeck and its surrounding landscapes form the region of interest for this study. The willingness to pay for different landscapes was surveyed for both groups by use of the contingent value approach. Tourists value cultural landscapes of their holiday regions higher than inhabitants. The results show little influence of sociodemographic characteristics on the appreciation of culturallandscapes. Instead, psych-social characteristics like the relationship towards nature and region are found to be significant factors of valuation.
