Abstract:
At the beginning of 1990the Swedish banking system was hit by a severe crisis. Credit cooperatives faced heavy losses and disappeared from the market. Nevertheless, the idea of cooperative banks was revived after the crisis as the refoundation of several credit cooperatives revealed. With regard to the current financial crisis the Swedish answers to the banking crisis may serve as a model.
