Abstract:
In 2006, the European Cooperative Society was established as a new cooperative type of a company. In in-depth evaluation of this legal form shows, that there are numerous frictions and difficulties regarding the practical implementation of such cooperatives. Moreover, the European legal framework offers alternatives to an SCE, e. g. the European Economic Interest Grouping (EEIG), or the upcoming European limited liability company. This suggests, that there is little need for an SCE.
