Abstract: In the first section of our paper we discuss methodology and results of a study on confidence published by the Bertelsmann foundation in 2009. The data provided by the study are used for a comparison with cooperative value patterns and the structural characteristics of cooperatives. Results from this comparison are discussed in the second section. Finally, we explore how politicians, the cooperative sector and the civil society respond to the current situation.
