Abstract: This paper evaluates core aspects of the new CRD IV regulation and its impact on the German cooperative banking sector. We discuss how the corresponding requirements affect the control of returns, the allocation of loans, loan conditions, and the supervision of the bond portfolio. Results will be discussed with particular regard to the competitive environment. Finally, action alternatives are outlined.
