Abstract: In her doctoral dissertation, Iris Barsan deals with the legal framework of the European Cooperative Society (SCE). In her voluminous analysis, she investigates the motives for introducing the SCE, the historical background and the cooperative character as well as the differences in national] and European co-operative law. She criticizes concept and structure of the SCE and proposes reforms which could improve the hitherto limited acceptance of the SCE.
