Abstract:
Since the outbreak of the financial crisis, cooperative banks are concerned with a growing body of regulations, in particular regulations regarding compensation schemes. It can be shown, that those regulations do not appropriately reflect the characteristics of cooperative banks, particularly with respect to governance and corresponding compensation schemes with profit sharing components. We conclude that the organisation of such schemes requires considerable conceptional care and cannot be derived from those observed in the sector of publicly traded companies.
