Abstract:
The 179 German cooperative wine-growers associations have a long tradition and play an important role on the world market. About one third of Germany‘s wine yield comes from wine-growers‘ cooperatives, which are very heterogenous regarding structural characteristics. In addition to competition with local, national and European wine-growers, they have to face increasing competition with international producers from Australia, South Africa as well as North and South America. The paper illustrates the present competitive situation referring to the cooperative Bergsträsser Winzer eG (BWeg).
