Abstract:
In consequence of demographic change the search for alternative cost-efficient and commonly accepted support and care facilities for older people is required. Senior cooperatives constitute an opportunity to enhance quality of life for the elderly and to postpone the transition to residential care in older peoples’ life course. The cooperative idea of mutual support is evaluated as attractive especially by younger age groups and thus represents a promising way to enhance local social cohesion.
