Abstract:
Cooperative banks are in a difficult market environment due to regulatory tightening, low interest rates and digitization. Based on these challenges, a debate has emerged on the extent to which the burdens on credit institutions are uneven, depending on the size of the institution. This paper examines how the key figures of cooperative banks of different sizes have developed in this challenging market environment since 2010. The analysis makes it clear that the statement that small credit institutions could not exist in principle against larger institutions falls short.
