Abstract: Cooperatives are important players in enacting endogenous development strategies within regional networks, where they help mobilize local and regional resources. This article describes the case of VR Bank Nordeifel eG and analyzes how this cooperative bank contributes to sustaining and improving the material conditions and quality of life in the structurally lagging Nordeifel. The article focusses primarily on the bank's role in the formation of Eifel DLG eG, a service cooperative in the same region.
