Abstract:
The comprehensive promotion of renewable electricity generation by the Renewable Energy Sources Act favored the rapid increase of newly founded energy cooperatives in Germany. However, the framework conditions have significantly deteriorated in recent years. Therefore, energy cooperatives are forced to develop new and more complex business models in order to compete. In this regard, cooperations with other actors are discussed as a promising strategy, but have so far only been analyzed in case studies. Based on the results of a comprehensive survey, this article analyzes the cooperation structures of energy cooperatives in Germany.
