Abstract:
Creation of value in creative industries. The case of electronic club music. The paper asks how the concept of value chains can be applied to creative industries. A critical reading of neo-classical approaches shows that there is no sufficient adaptation to the peculiarities of creative industries possible, e.g. related to the question how values are created, formulated and distributed in this sector. By focussing on concrete interaction patterns, as proposed by Barnes (2008), the paper discusses an alternative approach based on empirical reconstructions of patterns of value creation within selected branches of electronic club music production in the cities of Berlin and Leipzig.
