Abstract: In this paper is analyzed the situation of the transfer of container transport, from the road, to the inland waters and especially on the Danube river, in the area of Romania. This is an EU program idea, which is far behind the forecast. The situation in Romania is much more difficult than other EU Member States. The paper reviews the real situation on the river artery, the possible intermodal connections and the strategies necessary for the transfer of containers on the Danube.
