Abstract: Achievements and prospects of wheat breeding for disease resistance in the world and in theCzech Republic are discussed. Attention was paid to possibilities of increasing resistance to rusts, powdery mildew, Fusarium head blight, leaf blotch, glume blotch, tan spot, common bunt and barley yellow dwarf virus on wheat. Methodical approaches adopted in national ring infection tests were outlined. New sources of resistance to the above-mentioned diseases were detected and described on the basis of three-year results of field infection tests.
