Nicolas Peypoch

Economie & Prévision, 2007, vol. n° 177, issue 1, 65-76

Abstract: FollowingLuenberger(1996), Briec and Peypoch(2004) proposedan aggregateproductivityindexcapable ofmeasuring intertemporal productivity, and of characterizing variations in efficiency and technological shifts. This paper applies the aggregate productivity index to France?s hotel industry. The 96 départements of metropolitan France are aggregated into regions, and their productivityin 2002and 2003isanalyzed. Theresultshighlight the importance of exogenous shocks on tourist frequentation. More specifically, the three regions that account for half of France?s total tourist frequentation have the lowest productivity.
