Abstract:
During the last decade, many authors have focused on urban growth dynamics. Some authors claim that urban growth follows a random walk process, while some others consider that it is rather a deterministic process depending upon city-size. Most empirical works deliver evidence on the nature of urban growth over industrialised countries? urban systems. By focusing on the Indian city size distribution, between 1981 and 2005, this paper applies some recent econometric tools in order to test the nature of urban growth within a country that met important economic and social changes during this period.
