The role of family workers’ reluctance to work on away-farms in determining the farm size and productivity relationship

Abstract: We propose cultural norms related to family honour as an explanation for the inverse farm size to productivity relationship. We show how family-labour valuation at the marginal product or market wage rate determines the relationship?s strength and direction. JEL Codes: Q12, J43.
