Abstract:
The transfer of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) is an important economic and social issue in Quebec. While SME transfers to cooperatives have been publicized and studied recently, SME transfers to non-profit organizations (NPOs) have not received the same level of attention. This research addresses this gap by identifying several cases of SME transfers to NPOs. Despite the challenges faced by the transferees, this model of business transfer has not only enabled the transferred SMEs to survive, but has made it possible for them to have a more confident outlook on their future business development.
