Abstract:
In this article, we reflect upon experiences from a social innovation project implemented in a very poor region on the Bolivian border with Brazil. We believe that certain characteristics were key to the project?s success: the creation of economic and social values was consistent with the values of the territory; learning was collective and inductive rather than based on the implementation of a pre-conceived model; and the strong community engagement paved the way for structural and replicable transformations. An approach to fostering community engagement is proposed.
