Abstract:
This article examines the complex relationship between technological entrepreneurship and sustainability issues. After outlining the entrepreneurial ecosystem that seems to be emerging around the concept of ?deeptech? in France, we analyze how the issues of sustainability and technological innovation are articulated and reflected in the discourse of these different players. For these actors, ?deeptech? characterizes entrepreneurial projects based on scientific discoveries and technological breakthroughs that furthers sustainable development. We show, however, that technology is intrinsically both curative and destructive, and that entrepreneurial projects based on technological innovation are by nature ambivalent. Finally, we propose several recommendations to encourage deeptech actors to adopt a reflexive stance on the strategies they pursue in relation to sustainability.
