Abstract:
The collaborative dynamic between small fintech startups and large traditional financial institutions is intriguing. Initially considered as competitors, fintechs and financial institutions are now facing the reality of collaborating to accelerate financial technology innovation. Based on three case studies of collaborations in Canada, the article analyzes this phenomenon and highlights two findings: 1 ? the dynamics of the relationship is based primarily on a logic of cooperation and not competition; 2 ? there are several important mechanisms to facilitate collaboration. Finally, this paper offers practitioners three levels of key success factors (individual, structural, and process), allowing them to better collaborate.
