Abstract:
This paper compares the capacity of two local innovation systems and territories, Canavese located in Piedmont (Italy) and Provence coalmining region (France), to renew in continuity or by breaking up local knowledge and know-how that had settled their productive success and social cohesion. It questions advantage that a cumulated knowlhow occurs to innovate or irreversibilities that it can generate and make difficult major evolution of a productive trajectory. Are there various ways to innovate and to renew a territory that underwent radical evolutions or breaks in its dynamics ?
