Abstract:
Scientific writing about neo-rurality in Quebec remains quite rare and has mainly focused on the experience of newcomers while offering little perspective of the greater ensemble. The present article sheds new light in this regard using qualitative data collected during research conducted in two contrasting regional county municipalities in the province of Québec. Specifically, it reflects on the coherence of representations of and practices toward newcomers by three groups of citizens: long-time residents, directors of local and regional community organizations, and municipal officials. The analysis presented here enables a better understanding of the processes of interaction between these actors and neo-rural populations while also exploring underlying nuances and paradoxes.
