Abstract:
The paper offers a review of recent research on collective action adopting a territorial perspective. This review is based on a synthesis of studies in the fields of natural resource management, agriculture, food supply, land planning and development of rural and peri-urban areas. We highlight the insights brought by a territorial standpoint on collective action along three main axes: how territories affect the development of collective action ; how collective dynamics develop locally (actors involved and their contributions, construction of common worlds) ; how, in return, collective action affects territories and their development. Two research avenues emerge from the proposed review. First, the complexity of interactions between collective action and territories calls for the adaptation and combination of existing conceptual frames. Second, the interest of a research-action perspective for understanding and supporting collective dynamics of territorial development is highlighted.
