Abstract:
This paper aims to understand both the intra- and inter-regional flows of technological knowledge through the theory of economic dominance. Structural indicators of territorial dependence, interdependence and autarky as well as cohesion centrality are proposed and applied to patent citation data for the US technology market (NBER dataset). The dual approach, comprising the structural relations between technologies is also considered, which enables the location of central sources of technological innovation for this market.
