Articulation entre les activités bancaires et microfinancières: une nouvelle sphère d'intermédiation ?

André Nsabimana

Mondes en développement, 2004, vol. 126, issue 2, 37-50

Abstract: This paper aims to analyse the role of an articulation approach between banks and microfinance institutions in the creation of a new type of financial intermediation and the promotion of investment projects in the african context. However, the inadequacy of the long term resources in addition with the lack of an insolvency risk insurance mechanism put a beak on their intermediation capacities. Banks have enough resources and management skills and technologies but for costs reasons and ignorance of the microfinance market, their entry is sluggish. Our study consider two articulation approaches : a partnership approach and an institutional intemediation approach.
