Abstract:
Since the 1970s, a security rhetoric in favor of strong repressive policies has gradually emerged in the French public space, in which it now dominates. The growing ?insecurity,? a phenomenon particularly constructed around the so-called problem of the ?suburbs,? is one of the core arguments of this ideology. It has had noticeable effects in both law and in judicial practices, causing prison overcrowding, and leading to the increased use of video surveillance.
