Abstract:
This paper focuses on the process of trade globalization since the start of the nineteenth century. It shows that globalization is neither linear nor irreversible. The turnaround of the trade openness ratio since the 2008 financial crisis appears as a form of consolidation and not as a crisis. This recent period can be usefully compared with the period that lasted from 1880-1913.
