Abstract:
The theory of comparative advantage explains how countries can mutually benefit from trade through the specialization of their economies. This concept, originally developed by David Ricardo two centuries ago, remains relevant today. The decrease in communication and coordination costs due to the development of information and communication technologies nonetheless implies a rethinking of the specialization of countries at a more fine-grained level. It is no longer appropriate to consider the sectoral level but rather one should think at the level of the tasks performed along the production chain.
