Abstract:
In facilitating transactions of goods and services, money has a social and economic function. However, it seems deprived of a function in today?s finance and banking system, established in the 1970?80s, in which money seeks only to multiply itself. The transmission of monetary policy to the real economy has diminished as banks? liquidity have been directed toward financial markets, rather than toward the financing of the real economy. Central banks? control over money supply has weakened in highly financialized spheres and if cryptocurrencies were to develop more, this control would be further weakened.
