Abstract:
The ecological transition relies on a profound transformation of society, which requires several decades to take place. However, climate modeling shows that this change needs to be made much more quickly. This observation explains the birth of the concept of climate emergency. It disqualifies the traditional tools of transition and advocates for a general mobilization of society as well as economic planning, which would imply that states temporarily regain control of the market. While a few governments have recently declared a climate emergency, they do not seem to have grasped what a climate emergency policy implies.
