De l’art ou de la spéculation ? Ce que nous apprend le xix e siècle sur la valeur des œuvres

Abstract:
The value of artworks depends less on strictly economic determinants than on the power relations between different "taste makers". This paper identifies the processes of artistic valorization and identifies its main actors, in the light of the 19th century in Paris: the irresistible rise of logics considered as purely speculative testifies in reality to a fading of the academic system in front of the professionals of the market.
