Abstract:
The relationship between price and value lies at the heart of economic theory. This article proposes to extend the analytical shifts made by economic sociology – from the study of prices to that of pricing, and from the study of value to that of valuation – in order to examine the relationship between the formation of prices and the formulation of value. It shows that if the relationship between price and value is taken as an empirical problem, it can be identified in contemporary debates on prices that put at stake the link between valuation and temporality.
