Arriérés de salaire, congés obligatoires et participation au marché du travail russe

Revue économique, 2001, vol. 52, issue 4, 885-914

Abstract: Behind an apparent, official, stability of employment in Russia, large flows of labour are occurring: workers change job or combine different jobs. Wage arrears and unpaid leaves contribute to this labour market dynamism. The former has a positive impact on multi-activity, workers being constrained by mobility costs. The latter increase the probability of moving from job-to-job or of becoming inactive or by involving into land plot work. Except gender, individual characteristics do not affect mobility, but enterprise variables do. In particular, workers in public enterprise turn out to be less mobile than those working in private and foreign firms do. Finally, wage arrears can be seen as perverse means of adjustment, because they contribute to the growth of informal activities. Classification JEL : J21 J6 P2
