Abstract:
The existing literature studies the impact of technical change on unemployment and job instability mainly by focusing its attention on the impact of changes in the diffusion rate of innovations. In this paper, we argue that an other dimension of technical change should not be neglected, namely its nature. Then, we show that when we take into account the impact of not only the diffusion rate of innovations but also of the nature of innovations in a standard matching model, we can have a better understanding of the effects of technical change on unemployment and job instability.
