Abstract:
This article examines employment disparities and wage differential between young people with foreign origin and young people with French origin. Using a cohort of school leavers of secondary education in 1994, our results reveal that the main difficulties of young people with foreign origin are linked to a lower employment probability. The less endowment in human capital plays a lager role in determining the employment probability. However, when they find a job, they earn slightly higher wages than young people with French origin. The wage gap decomposition suggests that this differential is due to effect of unobserved characteristics linked to their employment probability. This result may be explained by a positive selection when they find a job.
