Abstract: We analyze the effect of local availabilityof childcare on mother?s labour market participation. We use a bivariate probit model to explain both labour market participation and child care use of mothers. The main results confirm that the local availability of child care has a positive effect on mother?s labour market participation and child care use. Estimations from specific groups of mothers suggest that the size of this effect is not negligible. Classification JEL : J13, J22
