Renoncer aux soins périnataux: quelles conséquences sur l’état de santé du nourrisson ?

Abstract: Many studies have uncovered the intergenerational mechanisms at work in the construction of health inequalities. These studies point to the idea that an individual?s health status is related to behaviors adopted by his/her parents, sometimes even before birth. This research complements this idea and these studies by focusing on the study of the impact of unmet needs for health care during pregnancy on the infant?s heath status at birth. This article relies on and uses data from the Ministry of Health?s 2010 National Perinatal Survey. We show that the probability that an infant is born with a health problem increases if his/her mother has, during pregnancy, both encountered a health problem and unmet needs for health care.
