Abstract:
This paper examines the causal effect of the terrorist attacks of November 13, 2015 on French preferences for integration and public spending. Based on data from the DREES Opinion Barometer, collected from October 13 to December 1, we can treat these attacks as a natural experiment. This evaluation of the impact of the attacks of November 13 shows a sharp increase in social cohesion perceived by the French. The attacks did not lead the French to question the pre-existing integration system or the prominence of economic and social issues in the action of the public authorities, but instead led to the defense of the existing system.
