Abstract:
The aim of this article is to analyse the way French biotechnology firms evolve. Our study relies on the American example where the biotechnology industry emerged during the 80?s. We shed light on two institutional factors which have induced the American success : intellectual property and financing system. We study how these factors contribute to the development of the French firms. This work is based on an empirical study focusing on innovating biotech firms created between 1985 and 2005.
