Abstract:
The electronic purse is one of the latest smart card applications. However, the French Monéo electronic purse meets considerable difficulties to its widespread diffusion meanwhile several foreign electronic purses are successful. A test survey in the South of France allows us to analyse the determinants of the decision to adopt (100 consumers) and of the frequency of use (50 users). By allowing the dependence between these two decisions in a selection model, this exploratory study finds that the household income does not explain the frequency of use but only the decision to adopt.
