L’impact des industries culturelles et créatives sur la richesse des régions européennes

Brice Barois, Michel Dimou and Alexandra Schaffar

Revue d'économie industrielle, 2021, vol. n° 173, issue 1, 11-42

Abstract: This work builds an empirical model and uses Eurostat data for the period from 2006 to 2013 to study the effects of the cultural and creative industries on the economic performance of the 226 regions of the European Union. This work shows firstly that these industries have not been affected by the economic crisis of 2008. Secondly, it shows that these industries capture the regional human capital effect. Thirdly, it shows that, when taking into account spatial autocorrelation effects, the impact of these industries on regional economic wealth is more ambivalent and may, in some circumstances, lead to higher income disparities between the European regions. JEL classification: O18, O34, L86.
