Abstract:
?The emergence of automated vehicles (AVs) is still uncertain, but public authorities see its use as a ridesharing service in a public transport network as promising. While the potential is significant, there is a lack of socio-economic studies of services integrated into the existing transit network as a substitution for bus service. This research proposes to evaluate the replacement of bus lines in two territories of the Paris region, Palaiseau and Montreuil, by this type of innovative service. A simulation approach is used to propose the most efficient service for the area from a social, economic and environmental point of view. Supply and demand scenarios are used to compare several service configurations. The results are rather in favour of the AVs service with positive surpluses in all the simulations conducted. However, if the cost of the AV or the initial level of demand has little impact on the surplus, a low demand pool in favour of the AV or a speed limited by congestion strongly limit the interest of the service. The environmental impact of VA is still poorly documented and still undervalued in socio-economic assessments. ? ?JEL classification: ? ?C63, R41? ?.?
