Abstract:
This study highlights the influence of immigrant status on aspirations for high-performance entrepreneurship, that is, entrepreneurship that fosters greater long-term economic potential. Based on a sample of 14,679 emerging entrepreneurs from the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor, we show that immigrant status favorably influences three of the four dimensions of high- performance entrepreneurial aspirations, i.e., the aspiration for process innovation, strong exports, and strong employment growth. These results suggest that the immigrant entrepreneur is a potentially more important cog than the native entrepreneur in the forces of Schumpeterian entrepreneurship.
