Abstract: This article examines the relationship between environmental, entrepreneur-related and organizational characteristics of Vietnamese SMEs and their export behavior. More precisely, it looks at the mediating effect of entrepreneurs? actual behavioral controls on the relationship between psychic distance stimuli and export mode choice of Vietnamese SMEs. Based on a dataset of manufacturing SMEs in Viêt Nam, we find that entrepreneurs? actual behavioral controls and organizational factors influence the export mode choice of Vietnamese SMEs. We find no evidence that psychic distance (geographical distance and psychic distance stimuli) influences the export mode choice of Vietnamese SMEs. Finally, entrepreneurs? actual behavioral controls do not play any mediating or moderating role in the relationship between psychic distance and Vietnamese SMEs? export mode choice.
