Revue de l'Entrepreneuriat, 2023, vol. 22, issue 1, 115-146

Abstract: The research studies the impact of the behavioural mode in the start-up phase (effectual, causal, hybrid, etc.) of entrepreneurs on the performance of companies in terms of volume and growth. Data come from 189 entrepreneurs in the French out-of-home food consumption sector. A cluster analysis and the testing of a structural equation model show the superiority of the hybrid mode over other behavioural modes in terms of growth performance. On the other hand, no difference exists between the behavioural modes in the start-up phase regarding performance in terms of volume. These results are then discussed.
