Abstract: Resilience on the scale of an entrepreneurial ecosystem (EE) reflects a process of transformability by which resilient actors resolve tensions. We have studied resilience in the context of three Malagasy EEs by conducting a comparative analysis of the phenomenological accounts of the actors involved. Our results show that resilience can be reactive or proactive, as has been observed elsewhere, but they highlight a new type that can be referred to as atonic resilience. Our results underscore the fact that the resilience of an EE involves a disruptive process, endogeneity, and embeddedness of the phenomenon, as well as a dialogical (collective and individual) perspective.
