Revue de l'Entrepreneuriat, 2023, vol. 22, issue 4, 15-41

Abstract: This article presents a qualitative study investigating temporal well-being of entrepreneurs. Based on interviews with 21 French entrepreneurs, we show that time is the main factor reducing well-being. Entrepreneurs experience both time pressure and time use dissatisfaction, two aspects driving ill-being. Three dynamic phases are identified: a phase of temporal well-being reduction, a phase of awareness regarding the pathogenic effect of time, and a phase of action where time-related strategies are adopted to establish a better work-life balance. Our research confirms that time is an important facet of entrepreneurs’ well-being, while providing a first conceptualization of temporal well-being in the entrepreneurship context.
